On-site Case Management, community organizing, outreach programs, family supportive services, off-site intervention and treatment programs, substance abuse prevention training.

Recognizing the critical importance of computer literacy, the FIC facility includes an 11 station computer center which includes up-to-date personal computers, printers and a range of training software.

Major commitments for support have been received from an array of organizations form the Metro areas, administering a wide range of employment, training, and job readiness initiatives including an extensive effort to support public assistance recipients move off welfare into well-paying jobs.  WTFSS recognizes that Wayne County area residents are a primary target population for welfare-to-work programs and intends to actively coordinate its planning efforts so that the Metro area resident population needs and issues are carefully considered.   Therefore, WTFSS intensions are to enter into partnership with an array of community organizations which include a special focus on TANF recipients, public housing, and Section 8 families.  WTFSS has agreed to undertake the following actions:

• Priority Job Training and Placement Opportunities

WTFSS Family Investment Center will provide a placement for Hand of Hope participants to access job training opportunities in the following areas: word processing, office clerical skills, health care assistant and technician, general clerical skills, and other programming currently being developed.  To facilitate this effort, FSS participants will engage in regular scheduled on-site recruitment activities.

• Supportive Services

All participants participating in employment training programs receive vocational case management, job readiness, and job placement assistance to maximize their opportunity to secure a good paying job in a training related occupation.  These services include, but are not limited to identification skills, resume preparation, interviewing skills and various job retention skills topics.  A high priority is placed on securing positions with health care benefits for program graduates.

• Pre-Employment and Job Readiness Services

WTFSS families who participate in Hand of Hope program  will receive priority placement in a range of available pre-employment and job readiness services designed to prepare residents for successful transition into job training programs.  Pre-employment services are designed to provide vocational specific math and language skill remediation necessary for successful completion of job training requirements. 

• WTFSS Training Programs

WTFSS Family Investment Centers committed to facilitating WTFSS participants access to career-oriented training programs.  Towards this end, Family Investment Center agrees to provide on-site training programs such as the Computer Based Occupational Training and Retail Training programs.

• Post-Employment Support

WTFSS intends to develop a coordinated strategy which allows for a minimum of 3 month post-placement follow-up on all FSS participants once they have been placed in employment settings.

• Resource Materials

Michigan Works will provide the Family Investment Center with a range of job readiness resource materials including the following: evaluations of local labor market, occupational outlook information, career interest survey tools, and career guides.

• Mentors

Our Mentors are dynamic, reciprocal, long-term formal, or informal, relationship that focuses on personal and/or professional development. Our Mentors provide perspective, resources, and ask thought-provoking question which allows the mentoring relationship to learn and teach each other. 

      To provide WFSS participants with the opportunity to operate their own business.

Small Business Administration (SBA) will provide program support to orient residents to small business opportunities and resources. WTFSS in conjunction with SBA, will conduct on-site workshops and events to develop interest among participants that would like to own a small business.
